In 2026, serving customers on WhatsApp with AI has become an official feature: Meta launched the Meta Business Agent globally, which answers questions, recommends products, schedules, qualifies leads, and closes sales — handing over to a human when necessary. In Brazil, where 96% of companies use WhatsApp as their primary channel, this changes the game. But "possible" doesn't mean "automatic".
Why it matters so much in Brazil
Here, WhatsApp is the commercial infrastructure: 139 million users, 96% of companies on the channel, and conversational commerce converting 45-60% (up to 12x more than traditional channels). Putting AI there is automating the counter where sales already happen.
What AI already does
It serves 24/7 (reduces customer service load by up to ~54%), qualifies before wasting salesperson time, schedules within the conversation, and even receives payments on the fly. And it reroutes to a human at the right time — this stitching is what separates customer service that sells from a robot that annoys.
Where it stops
Fine negotiation and delicate objections remain human. The number is fragile (mass sending burns it). AI on a messy database accelerates the mess. And there are window rules, opt-in, and cost per conversation.
Now that Meta has made it official, the advantage isn't in HAVING AI on WhatsApp — it's in integrating it with a CRM and a process that turn conversations into revenue. This is the design I build.
